THEE SINSEERS

Formed in early 2019, Thee Sinseers play a blend of 1960s soul and R&B cultivated in their hometown of East Los Angeles. Their sound echoes that of groups like James Brown, Ritchie Valens, Brenton Wood and Otis Redding.

At a time when R&B and soul revival bands are slowly popping up everywhere, the authenticity given to the audience at a Sinseers show is palpable. That is credited to the members and their love for soul/R&B music. Fronted by multi-instrumentalist/producer Joey Quinones, Thee Sinseers demonstrate an exciting exuberant show that makes your heart break one minute with their touching ballads and make your feet move the next. Vocalists Adriana Flores and Bryan Ponce trade off with Joseph to sing lead on songs showcasing the talent of each member. These love songs that seem as if they’d be coming out of a radio in 1960 will be sure to make you fall in love. A hard hitting rhythm section led by Luis Carpio, Chris Manjarrez, Aaron Perez and Francisco Flores make your seats vibrate and keep you grooving. Beautiful horn lines led by Ben Caiazza, Eric Johnson and Steve Surman. Thee Sinseers will give you a show to remember, they incorporate crowd participation and make sure they keep you coming back.

Thee Sinseers’ new single “What’s His Name” is out today on digital and streaming platforms via Colemine Records. Click here to order.

CURATION RECORDS TO REISSUE THOSE PRETTY WRONGS’ (FEATURING BIG STAR’S JODY STEPHENS W/ LUTHER RUSSELL) FIRST TWO ALBUMS THOSE PRETTY WRONGS & ZED FOR ZULU AS A SPECIAL 2xLP VINYL GATEFOLD SET | OUT FEBRUARY 2022

Jody Stephens and Luther Russell are Those Pretty Wrongs…

Those Pretty Wrongs (2016) & Zed For Zulu (2019) were both released to great critical success and the duo toured much of the US and EU delighting crowds with Those Pretty Wrongs music. There’s an undeniable influence of Stephens’ former band (Big Star) in the breezy melodies, the strong, simple and straightforward arrangements, beautifully built around the duo’s harmonies. Both albums were originally recorded at the legendary Ardent Studios in Memphis.

Billed as “Double the PRETTINESS for the price of one” and inspired by the classic truck-stop LP two-fers (along with the desire to update the vinyl pressing with premium cutting, and packaging) Curation Records has teamed up with Those Pretty Wrongs to not only put their two LPs back in print, but to also remind the world of the power of “pretty music.”

The deluxe reissue of Those Pretty Wrongs / Zed For Zulu will be available as a Limited 2xLP Vinyl Gatefold Set, as well as CD and digital/streaming formats February 2022 via Curation Records.

BROOKLYN VEGAN PREMIERES JAMES WILLIAMSON’S NEW SINGLE “I’M SICK OF YOU”

CLICK HERE TO STREAM THE STOOGES’ JAMES WILLIAMSON’S “I’M SICK OF YOU” W/ THE ORWELLS’ MARIO CUOMO ON VOCALS.

The Stooges guitarist James Williamson is releasing a solo album, Re-Licked, which features “lesser-known Stooges tracks properly recorded and mixed for the first time” with an impressive list of guest lead singers, including Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys), Mark Lanegan (Screaming Trees), Alison Mosshart (The Kills), Mario Cuomo (The Orwells), Bobby Gillespie (Primal Scream), Ariel Pink and others. James is backed by live Stooges members Steve Mackay, Toby Dammit, and Mike Watt (also of The Minutemen, fIREHOSE, etc) and that dog.’s Petra Haden provides backup vocals. The album’s due out on October 29 via Leopard Lady Records.

“I’m Sick of You,” which has The Orwells’ Mario Cuomo on guest vocals, makes its premiere in this post. James says it “was one of the very earliest songs [he] wrote with Iggy back in around late 1970,” and that they “played it live at the King’s Cross Cinema Show while [they] were in London just before [they] recorded Raw Power.” Mario’s a good choice, considering Iggy seems like a big influence on him, and he gets his Danzig or his Jim Morrison on a bit for this one too. Check it out below. The Orwells also have a previously discussed fall tour which hits NYC on October 15 at Irving Plaza. Tickets for that show are still available.

THE TILLERS TO RELEASE THEIR NEW SELF-TITLED STUDIO ALBUM MARCH 23RD ON VINYL, CD, DIGITAL & STREAMING FORMATS VIA SOFABURN RECORDS

The Tillers have been thumping their own distinctive sound of string band style folk music for a decade, riding it all over the country and across the sea. Four studio albums and one live record have won them praise as modern folk storytellers of the national soundscape.

Mid-2017, The Tillers holed up at Candyland Recording Studio in Dayton, KY with producer Mike Montgomery (Jeremy Pinnell, The Breeders) and tracked ten new songs, live to 2” tape. The recordings showcase the diversity of their writing and musicianship, from hard-tackle thump to tender graceful melody – lightening-fast banjo to intricate guitar flat picking, plaintive fiddle, deep anchoring bass and clear tenor harmonies.

Fueled by life, family, history, travel and politics, the new self-titled LP is the band’s most engaging record to date. Singer-songwriter-guitarist Sean Geil says of the new record, “This album is definitely more aggressive than past efforts. At our core we are still a traditionally rooted string band, but I’d say our punk rock roots are more visible on this album. And the addition of Joe Macheret on fiddle has added a new dynamic and allowed us to explore new territories as well as fill out the overall sound.”

Out of the 10 compositions, nine are self-penned by the band. The one cover is a rousing version of the Woody Guthrie song “All You Fascists Are Bound To Lose,” where singer-songwriter-banjo player Mike Oberst even wrote the following two additional verses to reflect these tumultuous times, “Here comes a big machine surrounding all your hate, force it to surrender now let’s get this straight, you’re bound to lose…” and “Race hatred cannot break us, better learn it quick, our children won’t be sold your poison rhetoric, you’re bound to lose!”

“Every song here is a story,” Geil says. “Some tell of our own personal experiences, while others are more topical, paying tribute to where we’re from or reflections on the state of our society.”

The Tillers will be released worldwide on Vinyl, CD and Digital Platforms March 23rd via SofaBurn. Click here to pre-order the vinyl.

THE TILLERS TRACK LISTING:
1. The Weald & The Wild
2. Migrant’s Lament
3. Like A Hole In My Head
4. The Old General Store Is Burning Down
5. Dear Mother
6. All You Fascists Are Bound To Lose
7. Riverboat Dishwashing Song
8. Revolution Row
9. Mona
10. Another Postcard

Read on:
In the beginning there were three of them – Mike Oberst on banjo, trading harmonies with Sean Geil on guitar, and carried along by Jason Soudrette and his big wooden bass. They busked for coins and burritos around Cincinnati, playing traditional songs; Woody Guthrie, southern blues laments, anonymous relics of Appalachian woods, churches, riverboats, railroads, prairies and coal mines. Six times they have received Cincinnati Entertainment Awards from CityBeat Magazine. The band caught wider attention nationally when they were featured by renowned news anchor Tom Brokaw in his documentary about the historic Route 50. They’ve played music festivals from coast to coast, toured Ireland and the UK, travelled with Pokey LaFarge and The Hackensaw Boys and shared a stage with countless icons like Doc Watson, Iris Dement, Jerry Douglas and Del McCoury.

In order to pursue other passions, Soundrette chose his own replacement and handed over the bass reins to Sean’s brother, Aaron Geil and the band soon added Joe Macheret on fiddle.

Tragedy struck a few years later when founding bassist Jason Soudrette passed after a long fight with AML leukemia.

The band has continued on in Jason’s name, launching new tours, writing new songs and raising new offspring.

TRIPTIDES

TRIPTIDES TO RELEASE THEIR NEW STUDIO ALBUM SO MANY DAYS VIA CURATION RECORDS THIS WINTER 2022

Among the newest generation of bands in the tradition of West Coast psychedelia, Triptides have blossomed into the role of elegant adventurers.

Led by guitarist, keyboardist and singer Glenn Brigman, with drummer Brendan Peleo-Lazar and bassist/guitarist Stephen Burns, the trio is continually discovering their sound through a complex map of familiar influences and bold choices in tonality, structure and texture.

This is a transformation long in the making. Starting in 2010 in the college town of Bloomington, Indiana, Brigman was making albums as Triptides with roommates and friends in a raw, Beach Boys-meet-Cleaners-From-Venus cassette-induced haze. Their albums Psychic Summer, Sun Pavilion and Colors made a mark and paved the way for greater things.

As the band moved West, so did their influences, and Los Angeles brought out a more sophisticated element in Triptides. Doors-inspired organ flourishes and driving, Stereolab-esque movements melded with the spirit of The Byrds in the Fifth Dimension to bring a potent melodic punch in the form of 2017’s Afterglow and 2018’s Visitors. All the while, the group developed their live sound touring and playing festivals in the US and Europe. 2018 also brought about Brigman’s collaboration with L.A.’s Samira Winter. Triptides and Winter created the tropicália-inspired Estrela Mágica and toured the US, now with Burns and Peleo-Lazar bringing an exciting new dynamic to the band.

As a trio on stage and in the studio, Triptides have opened up a new sonic world. Their live sound is bold, dynamic, synchronized chaos. On their records, they are adventurous and surprising—winning Shindig! magazine’s Single of the Year with the undeniably heady “Nirvana Now”—and forging a unique array of other singles throughout 2019 and 2020.

After last year’s otherworldly Alter Echoes, the group has joined up with L.A.’s Curation Records to release their forthcoming love letter to the Canyon Sound, So Many Days. Written and recorded in the San Bernardino mountains, these songs show a more grounded and pensive side of their ever-evolving sonic landscape. A whole new palette of sounds is gained, but nothing is lost. Even amidst acoustic and pedal steel guitars, the songs are unmistakably Triptides.

Triptides’ new studio album So Many Days will be released on limited vinyl, CD and digital platforms this winter via Curation Records.

TRIUMPH OF THE WILD

TRIUMPH OF THE WILD TO RELEASE THEIR SOPHOMORE ALBUM “WE COME WITH THE DUST” APRIL 14, 2015!

Fueled by a five month trip with stops in Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas, and Tennessee, Triumph of the Wild found inspiration by immersing themselves in American musical history and culture, connecting with local talent, and honing their performances at every opportunity.  Their return to San Diego was marked by festivals, shows, television appearances and two San Diego Music Award nominations culminating with a win for Best Local Recording. Closing the year, Triumph of the Wild finished writing a new record entitled We Come With The Dust which the duo was able to fully fund with a successful Kickstarter campaign by the support of their fans.

Triumph of the Wild’s backbone is firmly grounded as a one woman and one man band, highlighting the twin harmonies of Christy Barrett and Ryan Schilling. Both cite influences ranging from Woody Guthrie and Janis Joplin, with an occasional nod to Dylan or Lennon/McCartney. The duo manage to produce an impressively rich and full sound: Ryan mans the kick, harp, guitar and back-up vocals while Christy handles percussion, the kazoo and lead vocals that the San Diego Troubadour claims is a “powerhouse voice that goes from whiskey soaked wail to honey tones in a note.”

Triumph of the Wild’s forthcoming sophomore studio album We Come With The Dust will be available on CD and digital formats April 14th. National tour dates to be announced soon!

TWO GALLANTS

After a two year break, the San Francisco guitar-drum duo TWO GALLANTS will begin touring again this summer across the North America and Europe. The well needed time off came after six years of incessant touring and the release of three full-length studio albums and an acoustic EP. The band consists of childhood friends Tyson Vogel and Adam Stephens who met on their elementary school playground at the age of five. Despite an initial disagreement and ensuing scuffle over the supremacy of White Lion vs. Whitesnake, the two have been best friends ever since. They have been playing music together in some capacity since 1994, when their parents made the mistake of giving them both electric guitars for Christmas. Around 2002, the two college dropouts found themselves with some time on their hands and silence to kill; and so with an acoustic guitar and a trap set they formed TWO GALLANTS in the basement of the Vogel residence. In an ongoing unspoken competition to out do one another, the intervening years have seen the two-piece increase their volume and gear ten-fold. The bands’ sound is somewhat of a syncretism of American old-timey roots music with the grunge and east bay punk of Tyson and Adam’s formative years. The last show they played together was headlining The Fillmore in their hometown in December 2008. In the two years since, both have released solo material under Devotionals and Adam Haworth Stephens, respectively. But now they are looking forward to getting back to the haranging strident noise that fueled them across the world for six years. Come see TWO GALLANTS perform in a town near you this summer and look forward to a new album in the not too distant future.

THE TWO TENS

Click here to download a new hi-res photo of The Two Tens (credit: Suzi Moon) and On Repeat album art

THE TWO TENS TO RELEASE THEIR NEW SOPHOMORE ALBUM ON REPEAT ON AUGUST 18TH 2017 VIA MAN DELLA RECORDS!

The Two Tens are set to release their follow-up effort to their acclaimed debut album Volume later this summer. Not only have the themes of heartbreak, heartache and depression reared their heads again on the L.A.-based duo’s new studio LP, On Repeat, but the pile-driving rock that dominates these 13 original tracks, along with a bludgeoning cover of Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s “Nerve Damage!,” are an equal and familiar punch-in-the-gut.

What isn’t ‘on repeat’ on this effort, however, is the fact that there are some actual honest love songs featured in the mix. As singer/guitarist Adam Bones explains, “I went through some major ups and downs in the time we were writing this album and I’m pretty sure it shows.”

Building on the raw garage-punk that dominated their previous effort, the duo has also expanded their musical palette to include a poppier edge to some of the tracks. “We wanted On Repeat to be different than Volume,” drummer/background vocalist Rikki Styxx admits. “We had talked about adding more layers and getting more creative with sounds overall. We were fortunate enough to work with renown producer John Fields who has his hands in a lot of ‘pop’ albums. Also Adam started writing more love songs. There’s something to swing your hips to and something to crowd surf to. It’s got a lot of flavors that’s for sure.”

The band recorded and tracked three songs for the album with Fields at his Minneapolis studio, Creation Audio. Like Volume before it, they had producer/manager Bruce Duff produce the rest of the songs for On Repeat, with Paul Roessler engineering at Kitten Robot Studios and Toneduff Studio.

The Two Tens have effectively been recording and touring as a two-piece since their inception three years ago. “The benefits are that there’s only two of us,” Bones states, ”so there are only two cooks in the kitchen, so to speak. Scheduling is easier because there’s only two of us. Also, touring isn’t as difficult and it’s more comfortable.” Styxx adds, “What I’m bad at, Adam excels in and vice versa. Synergy is very important and we both work equally in our areas of strength towards the success of the band. And you get your own bench seat when you tour, c’mon now!”

The Two Tens plan to hit the road hard later this summer in support of On Repeat (dates to be announced soon) and promise a number of music videos to accompany the high-octane tracks that fuel this new release.

The Two Tens’ On Repeat will be available on vinyl, CD, digital and streaming formats August 18th via Man Della Records. Pre-order On Repeat via iTunes / Google Play / physical

2016 PRESS ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THE TWO TENS’ DEBUT ALBUM VOLUME:

Buzzing guitars, big thumping drums and sheets of skysaw vocals… this is The Two Tens. Barely a year old, The Two Tens are a duo consisting of Adam Bones and Rikki Styxx; deluxe, fashionable rockers looking to have fun and melt faces. Inspired by ‘60s garage and ‘70s punk along with all manner of modern buzz ‘n’ fuzz, Bones and Styxx are ready to introduce The Two Tens to planet Earth and beyond.

Shortly after forming, the band quickly wrote 12 songs and recorded them with producer Bruce Duff (Prima Donna, Streetwalkin’ Cheetahs) at Paul Roessler’s (Screamers, 45 Grave) Kitten Robot studio in Los Angeles. Jim Diamond (White Stripes, Dirtbombs) mixed the recordings in Detroit. The cover was created by Stephen Blickenstaff, well-known for his iconic cover art for the Cramp’s Bad Music for Bad People.

The Two Tens played an official showcase at SXSW 2015 Saturday Night, were picked as one of six L.A. bands to see at SXSW by Los Angeles Magazine, and had a song in Showtime’s Shameless at the start of the 2015 season. They’ve supported the Sonics, Naked Raygun, Electric Six and the Misfits, toured the West Coast, played festivals Echo Park Rising, Viva Pomona and HiFi Rockfest.

VANDAVEER

The macabre has long held uneasy sway over the human condition. From ghost stories to creation myths, from CSI to Shakespeare, from cable news voyeurism to Edgar Allan Poe, the subjects of death, murder and all things ghastly have fascinated and frightened for centuries. Songs are no exception. From Old World roots to more recent incarnations in America, the murder ballad has traversed, shapeshifted and persevered. Despite our collective desire to be good and virtuous, people do very bad things. And then we sing about them.

Death, murder and ghosts have long been underlying threads coursing through Vandaveer‘s original songs, but instead of weaving their own shadowy tales into their latest studio effort, Oh, Willie, Please…, the DC-by-way-of-Kentucky alt-folk collective have tapped into the wellspring of traditional folk’s darker side.

Oh, Willie, Please… finds the group operating in a more collaborative spirit. In addition to the core duo of Mark Charles Heidinger and Rose Guerin, the talents of J. Tom Hnatow (These United States, The Mynabirds) and Phillips Saylor (Stripmall Ballads, The Shiftless Rounders) helped expand the project into a formidable ensemble, armed with steel string, resonator and pedal steel guitars, banjos and pianos, voices galore, and a common belief in the quality and relevance of the word ‘folk.’

Inspired by their recent participation in The 78 Project, the group gathered in a majestic old home on a picturesque horse farm in Lexington, Kentucky in the spring of 2012 and set to work re-imagining a collection of age-old murder ballads & songs of self ruin plucked almost entirely from the public domain. With longtime producer Duane Lundy once again at the helm, Vandaveer moved swiftly through the selected catalog, recording most of the tracks live in the manor’s great room. The result is a spacious, honest album that balances reverence and respect for the source material with a healthy coat of contemporary color.

Vandaveer’s Oh, Willie, Please… will be released in North America April 30th on CD, limited edition vinyl and digital formats, courtesy of Quack!Media.
