By ERIC R. DANTON

Daniel Martin Moore released four others albums during the five-plus years he was working on songs for his latest, “Golden Age,” which premieres today on Speakeasy.

Produced by Jim James of My Morning Jacket, “Golden Age” is a collection of 10 understated songs balanced between piano and a mix of electric and acoustic guitars. The arrangements are elegant and timeless, and Moore sings as though imparting a series of quiet confidences.

The Kentucky native wrote the oldest song on the album, “To Make It True,” in 2007, the year before he released his debut album, “Stray Age.” The tune pairs Moore’s reverberating vocals with glimmers of trebly electric guitar, and a faint whisper of piano and drums in the background. He finished the newest song, the gently rolling classic-style pop tune “How It Fades,” in 2013, a week before the December recording session that yielded the new album.

“Forming over such a distance, they don’t well up from the same sources,” Moore says by email of what inspired the songs. “But the tie that binds them is one of love and camaraderie, and the trials they’ve survived are ones of loss, and even of gain.”

“Golden Age,” due Oct. 9 on Sofaburn Records, is Moore’s third solo album. It follows “Farthest Afield,” his 2012 duo album with the singer and songwriter Joan Shelley. He collaborated with Ben Sollee on their 2010 release “Dear Companion,” and also released the solo album “In the Cool of the Day,” his take on a vintage gospel sound, in 2011.

The Bonnevilles – “The Whiskey Lingers” (audio) (premiere)
by Sarah Zupko

Northern Ireland’s the Bonnevilles are steeped in the blues and they enliven and amp up their sound by playing as a duo with Andrew McGibbon Jr. on vocals and guitar and Chris McMullan on drums. It’s a formation that has paid off in spades for both the White Stripes and the Black Keys and the Bonnevilles carry on that tradition of stripped down, blues rock run through with headbanging punk energy. It’s made the Bonnevilles a huge favorite on the European blues circuit and now the band has their third album, Arrow Pierce My Heart, on tap ahead of the summer festival season.

The group tells PopMatters that “‘The Whiskey Lingers’ is a song about waiting for revenge. In Ireland we have a saying ‘long runs the fox’, it means be patient and you get what’s due to you. When we recorded it I got to use an original Maestro fuzz pedal that was lying in a drawer in the studio, Mike didn’t even know if worked. It did and it sounded fantastic.”

The Bonnevilles’ Arrow Pierce My Heart releases March 18th on CD, digital and limited edition colored vinyl via Alive Naturalsound Records.
