Prefab Pontificator du Jour, Xerox Feinberg says of the song and video, “‘Monster Riff’ is our long-delayed homage to an actual crazy metalhead teenager we shared a crappy off campus apartment with way back in ancient times. I traded him Alice Cooper’s ‘Love It To Death’ for a battered copy of ‘Revolver’ and never looked back… until now. The kid had a giant mullet, a padlocked room full of virgin vinyl, a massive drum set he couldn’t keep a beat on, and complete disdain for our fuddy-dud, college boy DIY garage rock psychedelic revival. The song combines a bunch of heavy influences we spent decades snobbishly avoiding and features bassist Trip Thompson channeling a fiendish Axl Rose wannabe. Somehow the Flamin Groovies sorta get in there too. The lavishly animated music video tries to make sense of it all with a shout-out to B-movie monsters and imaginary Saturday morning cartoons. Zoiks!”
